A Big History Anthology
What is Big History?
Big History is a new field that has been developing rapidly around the world.
According to its professional definition: Big History seeks to understand the integrated history of the Cosmos, Earth, Life and Humanity by using the best empirical evidence and scholarly methods. Big History deals with the universe’s grand narrative of 13.8 billion years and provides a connection between our past, present and future. It encompasses all forms of existence and all time scales. The present collection is divided into three volumes and is the first international and comprehensive anthology of Big History.
This collection (compiled by and many authored by Barry Rodrigue PhD) will appeal to readers interested in large and small questions, as well as in our existence as evolving life forms on this planet and in the universe. It engages scholars, faculty and students from departments of history, astronomy, sociology and all other programs. These materials are used in schools around the world, including Harvard University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the American Museum of Natural History, the University of London, and NASA. It is a collection for everyone, presented in clear English with images, photos and many other fascinating illustrations.

Editors
Barry Rodrigue is a geographer, archeologist and historian. He serves as International Coordinator of the International Big History Association and works as a Research Professor for the Eurasian Center for Megahistory & System Forecasting, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. He also serves as international liaison for the Asian Big History Association
and the Big History Association of India. |
Leonid Grinin is an historian and sociologist as well as Senior Research Professor and Deputy Director at the Eurasian Center for Megahistory & System Forecasting, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the international journals, Social Evolution & History and Journal of Globalization Studies.

Andrey Korotayev is an anthropologist and mathematician with contributions to Near Eastern history, world-systems theory, cross-cultural studies, and socio-economic modeling. He is Senior Research Professor in the Institute of Oriental Studies and the Institute for African Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as Professor and Director of the Center for Anthropology of the East at the Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow.
